Smart glove improves your sense of touch in virtual reality

Published

on

A smart glove that zips up the back of your hand makes it feel like you’re picking up objects in virtual reality by sending electrical signals to the nerves in your palms.

To accompany the visual experience of holding something in VR, people often wear gloves that provide feedback directly to the palm of their hand, such as vibration or electrical signals. But gloves can also dull the sensation in your fingers, making it difficult to perform dexterous tasks while wearing a VR headset.

Now, Yudai Tanaka from the University of Chicago and his colleagues have developed a device that uses a web of electrodes on the back …

  • Content without limits, of course.
  • Site privacy policy.
  • No software, coupons/deals or promotional models
  • Your traffic must be from the US and Canada.

How does the CJ affiliate program work?

CJ Affiliate acts as an intermediary between advertisers and publishers. Advertisers register on CJ to promote their products or services, and publishers register on CJ to find and join affiliate programs to earn money. CJ then tracks the sales or leads generated by the publisher and pays them a commission according to the terms of the affiliate program.

CJ provides a win-win situation for both parties: advertisers get more sales and publishers make money.

In order for both parties to focus on their work, CJ also handles payments and other technical matters. Now that you know how CJ works, let’s learn more about how to sign up and start making money from it.

How to start making money online with CJ Affiliate

To start using the CJ Affiliate Network, you need to register an account. To do this, you must have a website or social media profile with relevant content and an audience from the US or Canada.

Bluetooth Tags for Android’s 3 Billion Tracking Network Are Here

Published

on

Increase / Track all your stuff with Android in a completely non-creepy way.

Google

After the release of Apple AirTags, Google suddenly had an interest in the Bluetooth tracker market. The company has already quietly deployed what must be the world’s largest Bluetooth tracking network over Android. 3 billion active devices, and now trackers are starting to connect to this network. Google takes an ecosystem approach and allows various companies to connect to the Android Bluetooth tracking network, which has a very derivative name of Find My Device.

While these Bluetooth trackers are great for finding lost car keys on a dirty desk, they can also work as worldwide GPS trackers and locate items much farther away even if they don’t have GPS. Bluetooth device IDs are public, which is why Tile started this whole idea of a crowdsourced Bluetooth tracker location called “Tile Network”. Each phone with the Tile app installed scans for Bluetooth devices in the background and, using the phone’s GPS, uploads their last discovered location to the cloud. This location data is only available to whoever owns the tile, but each tile user scans the environment and downloads any tiles the app sees.

Tiles are a fairly popular product, but they have nothing to do with the scale of our favorite smartphone duopoly – Apple and Google. Apple turned the market around when it released AirTags and rolled out a Bluetooth tracking network for most of the 1.8 billion Apple devices that exist. While Tile can work reliably in busy places like airports, you’ll probably never be more than a few hundred feet away from an iPhone at any given time, making a worldwide tracking network much more viable.

As usual, Google wants to do something similar, and in December 2022Google has introduced crowdsourced locations to the Android “Find My Device” network. Previously, only you logged the last known location of your devices, but this update will allow any phone to download the location of your devices. Android is terrible at sending OS updates, but it wasn’t an OS update; it arrived through Google Play Services, which is just an app that comes through the Play Store. This meant that overnight, 3 billion active Android smartphones received a crowdsourced tracking network update. The only problem is that it only tracked android phones and not any bluetooth tags.

Now, third-party Bluetooth trackers for the Android network are starting to appear. The two companies that announced their products Chipolo another pebble, both of which appear to be clones of the Tile product line. Both offer regular keychain tracking tags and slim credit card format trackers. Thile’s worst habits include making completely disposable items because the batteries can’t be changed, but it seems our clones mostly avoided that. All Pebblebee Find My Device products are rechargeable, which is great, and the Chipolo Keychain Tracker uses a replaceable CR2032 battery. Only the Chipolo wallet tracker is disposable (boo!).

(Ars Technica may be compensated for sales from links in this post through affiliate programs.)

All of these tags will show up in the Find My Device app next to your Android phones, headphones, and anything else you have that connects to the web. They also have a speaker just like the regular ones so you can make them ring when you are near them. Both sets of products are already available for pre-order.

Both of these companies support the Google and Apple networks, but are forced to release separate versions of the same product for each network, which is pretty ridiculous. Chipolo is really clunky and has three sets of products: one version that works with the company’s internal apps, another that works with the Apple Find My Network, and one that works with the Google Find My Device Network. We really can’t consolidate this? Both Google and Apple have joined forces to try and combat the malicious use of these tracking devices with a common standard. Can’t they just unify hardware support? It’s just Bluetooth!

Tile being eaten alive by Big Tech has not yet connected to any of these networks, but Google blog post says Tile will eventually join Find My Device. It is assumed that in the future, Google also plans to create its own Bluetooth tracker.
